Dear Fellow Administrators:

I It is an honor for me to be the President-Elect for the Delaware School Administrators' Association. As I look forward to the coming year, it is obvious that we have many challenges and opportunities ahead. In this year of political change and economic constraint, it will be imperative that our professional organization be an integral part of the discussion and decision making in our state. The coming year will provide an exceptional opportunity for us to work with a new governor and his administration to move education in the direction that is best for our students and their future. Currently, we are all being asked to cut our budgets while facing rising costs of books, materials, supplies, services, and utilities. We know that the cuts for the coming year are not as significant as first predicted. However, we also know that budget cuts are likely to be greater in the years ahead. As every school district and every administrator make the difficult decisions about what must be shaved, it will be extremely important to be reminded of the necessity for continued membership in our professional organization.

DASA and the national organizations with whom we are affiliated have and will continue to serve as the school administrators' voice at the state and national levels. As we look at significant budget cuts and a potential revamping of Delaware's educational system (DSTP. Accountability, Vision 2015 etc.) and the reauthorization of NCLB, it will be more important than ever for us to be unified and actively involved to meet the needs of administrators and the students we serve. DASA has been and will continue to work with the Governor's Office,
State Legislators, the State Board of Education, the Secretary of Education and DSEA to provide leadership in the political process. We are already making plans to meet with the gubernatorial candidates to set the stage for a collaborative culture between school administrators and state level decision makers.

In the next few days, you will receive the DASA membership forms and a packet of information about what our professional organization has done and will do for YOU. Please take time to read the information and to consider how important your professional organizations - local, state, and national are as your voice, support, and resource. You can choose to be actively involved or at the very least hold membership in the professional organizations that will represent all of us during this critical time.

As schools close for the year, you are all extremely busy. I thank you for reading my letter and encourage you to read the communications to come. May your school year end with the pleasure of the success of your students, and strength in the knowledge of your efforts on their
behalf.

Sincerely,

Juanita Wilson
DASA President for 2008-2009
